The
Physician Workforce: Projections and Research into Current Issues
Affecting Supply and Demand (published December 2008)
An adequate supply of physicians is needed to help ensure access
to affordable, quality health care. But the physician workforce
is aging, average hours worked are falling, and many physicians
are nearing retirement. At the same time, growth and aging of
the population, advances in technology accompanied by growth in
public expectations, contribute to a growing demand for physician
services.
The
Adequacy of Pharmacist Supply: 2004 to 2030,
the pharmacy vacancy rate has fallen from 8 percent in 2000 to
approximately 5 percent in 2004, equivalent to a shortage of about
10,400 pharmacists nationwide. (published December 2008)
